I'm a first-time homeowner, and I've got this unattractive section of my yard that's covered in landscape fabric and gravel. I'm wondering how much it might cost per square foot to have it all removed. Alternatively, could I just put something on top to prepare it for grass or maybe some artificial turf? I'm looking for affordable options. Also, if you have suggestions for planting in a west-facing area with full sun (zone 11) and a height limit of 15-20 feet due to low power lines, I'd appreciate it! Thanks in advance!

I know this isn't the exact solution you're after, but I think about planting a native tree right in the middle of that gravel patch could really enhance its appearance and provide some shade. Just remove the gravel in a circle and plant the tree!
Why are you looking to remove the gravel? What's your goal with that space?
You can't just pile dirt on top if you're planning for turf. For removal, I suggest getting quotes from local landscapers. If it's a small area, it might be hand removal. As for plants, leaving the gravel and adding some ornamental plants could spruce it up. Many plants can thrive there, so check your local nursery for ideas!

It's really hot and looks bad. I didn't do the gravel right, and I want it to look more presentable. Plus, my AC unit is over there.
