I recently bought my first house at 24, and after a heavy rainstorm, I found my basement leaking quite badly. My dad suggested using Drylok crack filler along with Drylok paint to patch up the leaks, but I've heard mixed things. I plan to eventually convert the basement into a family room, but I'm unsure about how to effectively deal with the water issue. Should I just patch it up, or might that make things worse?

I just put in new gutters, but they didn’t seem to help much with the leak. Have you thought about landscaping? Adding dirt or gravel around your foundation might help to direct water away. It’s not a guaranteed fix, but it’s worth considering.
Patching it up isn't really going to solve the problem unless you tackle the root cause first. You need to redirect the water away from your house. Depending on your yard’s setup and where you live, this solution can vary a lot. It might be worth exploring outdoor drainage options before applying any sealants.
