How Should I Fix This Foundation Hole and Crack?

I recently discovered a hole at one corner of my house's foundation, and there's also some erosion at the bottom of a block. I'm not sure if this hole goes all the way through to the basement, but I couldn't see it well from the outside. Inside the basement, I can't get a good look without taking down some panels or stairs. The hole measures about 10 inches wide and goes down roughly 1.5 feet. What's the best way to repair this? Should I fill it with something? Also, how do I tackle the crack that extends upward from it? Any tips on materials or whether I should hire a foundation specialist would be super helpful!

You might want to get someone to come take a look at it first. It could get messy when you find out what’s going on inside. If it’s safe to do so, remove the panel walls to see if that hole goes into your house. If it does, grab some structural mortar and mix it to a wet sand consistency, then start filling. Just be super careful and make sure everything is sealed well before you pour it in! Also, check your yard for issues — fix any drainage problems to prevent future damage.

Thanks! I’ll take down more of the panel wall to assess the damage before calling in an engineer.

I’m no pro, but it definitely looks like you should have a structural engineer check it out. It’s better to be safe than sorry! The damage seems significant, and getting a professional opinion could save you from future headaches. Good luck!

I checked the pictures, and that hole looks a bit concerning. For something that affects the foundation like this, calling a professional seems like the safest bet. DIY repairs might lead to bigger issues later, and they'll know the right materials to use for fixing that crack properly. Better to be cautious, you know? Good luck with everything!

I appreciate the good luck wishes! I’m definitely going to find a structural engineer to take a closer look.
