How Should I Prune My Double Gold Raspberries?

Hey everyone! I planted some bare root Double Gold raspberries last year, and I'm diving into the world of raspberry pruning. I've read that pruning differs between Primocane and Floricane varieties. My Double Gold is described as fall-bearing with a summer crop, so it seems like it falls into both categories. Can anyone clarify how I should approach pruning for this type?

The fall crop is usually the bigger harvest compared to the summer one, which tends to be smaller. You could just cut down all the old canes to really focus on maximizing that big fall crop.

Thanks! I might just need to space them out better, so my kid gets involved in checking the garden with me!

For your Double Gold raspberries, you'll want to prune the canes when they're about three years old. The summer crop typically comes from last year's new growth, while your fall crop comes from this year’s green growth. Once the canes get woody and hollow after three years, you can go ahead and cut those back.

Got it! So I just remove the old woody canes and keep everything else? That sounds simple enough.
