How Should I Regrow Succulents from Clippings?

I used to have a great collection of succulents, but I had to part with them because of issues like moldy soil and gnats. Now that I have a new place to grow plants again, I'm looking to start fresh with some succulents. I know you can regrow them from clippings that drop at garden centers, but I'm curious about the best way to get them started. Do I need to place the leaves in wet paper towels until they root, or can I just stick them directly into the soil?

Honestly, just pop the leaves in the soil and give them a light sprinkle of water now and then. It really is that simple!

Absolutely, but make sure your leaves are in good shape to start with! Healthy leaves have a better chance at rooting.

You can definitely just put the leaves right into the soil and find a nice bright spot for them. Forget about them for a few weeks and avoid watering for now. Just a small sprinkle of water occasionally will do. If the leaves aren’t already healthy, they might take longer to propagate, but I’ve surprisingly seen some shriveled-up leaves still sprout roots and pups!

Yes, it’s a slow process, but watching them grow is super rewarding! Just keep in mind, it can take months for pups to develop, unless you get lucky with certain types of plants like tradescantia, which can root really fast.
