How Should I Treat Mesquite Wood for My Plants?

I recently got some mesquite wood from my neighbor who was cutting down a tree, and I'd like to use it for support in my pots for pothos and monsteras. What are some ways I should treat this wood to prevent pests and mold before using it in my plants?

I’m not entirely sure about treatments, but isolating the wood for about 3 to 4 weeks is a solid idea. You might also want to try drying it in the sun to help prevent rot, especially if any part will regularly touch moisture. Just keep in mind that untreated wood can definitely rot if it's constantly wet.

A good method is to soak the mesquite in a mixture of one part bleach to nine parts water and then let it sit out to dry for a month or two. If you don’t want to wait that long, you can apply a wood sealant instead.
