I'm wondering about the capabilities of my M18 Hackzall when it comes to pruning tree branches. Specifically, what's the maximum thickness of branches it can handle without any issues?

The M18 Hackzall can handle pretty much anything if you're patient! The biggest factor is the blade you're using. I recently tackled a 9" trunk using a 12" Diablo pruning blade, so the blade size really dictates what you can cut through without any problems.
If you're looking to prune, just cut the branches into smaller chunks! With the right blades, you'll be surprised at what the Hackzall can do. It’s been my go-to tool for pruning, and it’s sturdy enough to handle tough jobs. Just take breaks if it gets too hot!
I've got both the M18 and M12 models, and honestly, they both cut like beasts! Just make sure to use some good pruning blades. I once took down a 20" stump along with its roots, and I've even used it for Christmas tree cutting—it slices through like butter! Just keep an eye on the heat; it can get pretty hot after heavy use, but overall, no issues.
