Hey everyone! I'm dealing with some repairs in my 70-year-old house that has plaster walls. I recently patched a few large areas with drywall and feathered out some other imperfections. Now, I'm worried about how noticeable these patches will be once I paint. My boyfriend thinks they'll show through because the texture won't match the egg-shell finish of the old paint. I plan to use Zinsser Fast Prime 2 as a primer. Will two coats of primer plus two coats of matte finish paint be enough to hide the patches, or do I need to skim the whole room? Any tips on blending these repairs would be super appreciated!

You don't necessarily need to skim the whole wall. When you switch from an egg-shell to a matte finish, yes, it can highlight differences, so it’s best to apply the matte finish paint across the entire room. This ensures a uniform look and helps mask imperfections better than leaving it just on the patches. Just make sure to sand the patches smooth, and then use that matte finish everywhere! It’ll help cover any inconsistencies.

Good to know! I just put primer on everything, but it is glossy and shows all the texture differences. I'm changing the color too, so I'll definitely paint the whole room with the matte to keep it consistent.
