I'm in the process of planning my gravel driveway for a new garage I've just built. The soil here is mostly clay mixed with some decent crop soil. I've checked out local quarries and limestone is the go-to material. From what I understand, I need to remove a significant amount of the topsoil first, then lay down some fabric followed by layers of #3, #57, and #8 gravel. Is the fabric just any kind of weed barrier used in landscaping? Is there anything else I should be aware of? Also, I've seen discussions about using blacktop millings; is that something worth considering for my driveway if it's accessible?

Make sure to grade the surface away from any structures like your garage. After that, compact the soil really well. When you add the gravel, do it layer by layer, making sure to compact each one before adding more. Do keep in mind that even with compaction, there might be some settling, so you might need to top it off again in a few weeks.
