Hey everyone! I'm planning to build my own bed frame because I have really high ceilings in my apartment. I want to create a high-sleeper design that has plenty of storage space underneath, like closets. I'm aiming for a king-size bed that could potentially hold 4-5 adults comfortably, as I expect people might want to check it out. What materials should I use to ensure stability and strength? Any tips on the design to make it structurally sound would be greatly appreciated!

For stability, I'd recommend building a freestanding structure instead of trying to add onto existing frames. A solid 2x platform on posts will give you peace of mind! Use joist hangers for support and make sure to pick the right thickness for your wood, like 2x10s or 2x12s, depending on how sturdy you want it.

What exactly do you mean by closets underneath? If they're just cabinets, make sure to connect them well and use solid backs for strength. Alternatively, you could frame a wall out of 2x4s and cover it with sheet material—you have tons of options! A rough sketch with measurements would really help figure things out.
