How to Care for My New Apple Trees and Growing Other Citrus?

I just picked up two apple trees from Home Depot and I'm really hoping they thrive and produce apples! I'm not exactly experienced with gardening, so I could use some solid advice. The tags on the trees mentioned that they do best when planted in pairs. I'm also interested in adding an orange tree to my garden, but right now my apple trees are still in their pots after just buying them yesterday. What can I do to prepare the soil for planting, and what should I mix into it?

Great choice on getting apple trees! Just a heads up, it’s important to have them in the right pollinator groups to ensure they can cross-pollinate. If both of your trees are the same kind, they may not produce fruit together. Check out the compatibility chart for your variety! When planting, make sure to prepare a good soil mix using compost or a quality potting mix like Happy Frog Ocean Forest. Be gentle with the roots when planting and stake them securely—tying them with pantyhose works wonders as it allows some movement without damaging the trunk. Oh, and don’t forget to water them regularly!

WOW... Thanks for this... Copying this into my notes to keep it handy. My wife wants an orange tree too—what do you think about that? I also saw Nectarine trees at Home Depot. I'm based in South Texas, near San Antonio. Any thoughts?
