How to Control Weeds in My Sweet Corn Patch?

I've got a small patch of sweet corn (about 6x10 feet), but the weeds are really taking over since I planted. I've tried pulling them out, but they just keep coming back. Is there an affordable post-emergent herbicide that I can safely use around my corn?

Why not try applying some mulch? A couple of inches of wood chips or even rice straw could help reduce weed growth significantly. Plus, putting down spent coffee grounds can boost nitrogen levels while the mulch does its job!

Considering your patch size, hand-pulling might be your best bet, honestly. It won't take too long, and you'll end up with a cleaner garden bed without any chemical worries!

Thanks for the encouragement! I guess I just need to stay on top of it.

Honestly, I'd steer clear of using herbicides around your corn. It’s generally better to just keep pulling those weeds. If you can do it early while they’re still small (a couple of inches max), it's much easier and won't disturb the roots of your corn. I plant mine in small hills and use a string trimmer for the space in between, pulling weeds by hand on the hills.

Totally agree! If you let them get too big, it’s a bigger hassle to pull them out without messing up your corn.

Have you thought about using a weed puller? You can grab those pesky weeds without needing to bend over - makes the job a lot easier! They should come out pretty quickly with it.
