I'm looking to convert my basement windows to meet egress requirements. Right now, they're about 64 inches up from the floor, but the code here in Seattle says they need to be at or below 44 inches. How challenging is it to cut down the concrete to lower the windows? Also, would it be a viable option to install steps below the windows to achieve the required height instead? I'd recommend hiring a pro for this job. You could rent a diamond wet saw to do it yourself, but it can get tricky. Besides the mess, it's important to think about structural integrity when cutting into concrete. Cutting like this might require additional support, like a lintel. Just something to keep in mind!
