How to Cool Down My Knee Wall Attic Space?

Asked By SunnySkyWalker42 On

I'm dealing with an excessively hot knee wall attic space that's open to my living area. Right now, I've blocked the opening with a scrap piece of wood, but it just traps heat. I'm looking for effective solutions to reduce the heat, whether it's by framing off the area to seal it from the rest of the room or opening it up more for better air circulation. My home is a Cape Cod style, 1-1/2 story house, and the only vents available are the soffits leading to the upper attic. Any advice would really help!

First off, is your knee wall area insulated at all? If it isn't, adding some insulation to the outside walls and ceiling could make a big difference in controlling the temperature. Also, if you can, sharing some pictures might help others see exactly what you're working with!

Yes, it sounds like insulation is key here! And remember, if the area is open, airflow really matters, too. You might also want to think about adding vents to improve circulation.
