I know there are tons of guides on doing bulb lasagnes in pots, but I'm curious about when it comes to planting them in a border. We've recently cleared a small area and I'm looking to create a bulb lasagne there. Do the same rules apply as with pots, or is there something else I should keep in mind?

Creating a bulb lasagne just means layering bulbs on top of each other. Should be just as simple in a garden bed—just make a sizeable hole!
I was also wondering if I need to dig a trench or just a regular hole. It seems like you could just do whatever works for your bed!
Don’t forget to mix bonemeal into each layer of bulbs and enrich the soil you’re backfilling with. I think a bulb lasagne bed is an awesome design choice! You could even toss in some hardy seeds in February, and you’ll have a beautiful display for months!
To start, dig a trench that's deep enough for your largest bulbs. Set the soil aside and have some compost ready to mix in, though it's okay if you don’t have any. Toss in your biggest bulbs at the bottom, ensuring they’re placed upright, then cover them with enough soil mixed with compost to reach the depth for the next size bulbs. Repeat this for each layer until you’re at the top. To keep critters like foxes and squirrels from digging them up, use some upright canes with pots on top to deter them. In spring, when the bulbs start to grow, don’t forget to feed them weekly for the best results!

What kind of hardy seeds are you thinking of adding?
