Hey everyone! We have an above ground pool, but it gets blazing hot during the summer with absolutely no shade. I want to build a retractable shade, but I'm unable to dig deep enough around the pool for traditional posts due to various reasons. My plan is to use lightweight shade and secure 10-foot treated 4x4s in five-gallon buckets filled with concrete—three on each side of the pool. Do you think that would work? I'd really appreciate any suggestions or ideas, especially since I'm totally new to this kind of project. Thanks a lot!

You could also look at using something like heavy-duty umbrella bases filled with sand or water. They’re quite sturdy and could easily support your shade!
I'm curious why digging has been a challenge. If you're worried about the weight of your awning, consider using guy wires with ground anchors to stabilize it. Just make sure you can actually drive those anchors into the ground!
Using concrete buckets might be easier than mixing your own concrete! Check out pre-made concrete base blocks that can support your posts without needing to dig. They can save you a ton of hassle!
You might want to just plant a tree nearby for some natural shade, although it could take a decade or more to grow!
Yeah, guy wires can help a lot if you can't dig. Just ensure they’re secure!
