Hey everyone! I've recently discovered that my mature Acer tree is infested with aphids. I think this is due to the sap production during its growth phase in the spring. The situation is pretty bad, and I'm at a loss as to how to tackle it. I'm considering getting ladybugs, but I'm unsure if they would be effective because of how widespread the infestation is. I've tried spraying the leaves with water, but that hasn't worked well since my tree is quite tall, and the aphids are everywhere. I'm also worried they're going to spread to the rest of my garden. To make matters worse, they covered my laundry that was drying outside! Any tips on how to tackle this issue effectively? I really want to reclaim my garden!

Check if the leaves are fully open yet; aphids usually stop attacking when they are. I often use a mix of fairy liquid and water at a low concentration to spray them directly, and it works wonders. I know they play a role in the ecosystem, but they can destroy your leaves if left unchecked!
You might want to start by applying some fruit tree tar around the base of the trunk; this will help prevent ants from farming the aphids. Also, look into getting ladybird larvae if you don't have any already nearby, since they can be really effective!
I think my leaves are already out for sure. Thanks for the tip! I'll definitely try that mix out.
