Hey everyone! This is my first post here, so I'm not entirely sure if I'm in the right place. A few years back, my garden's grass basically died due to my female dogs and lack of proper care. We tried reseeding the grass multiple times, but nothing took. Now, my garden is overrun with these huge dock leaf plants (at least I think that's what they are). Does anyone know why this is happening? I'm really struggling to get rid of them; we've tried several weed killers and even digging them out, but they just keep coming back every spring. We're thinking of switching to artificial grass once I can clear these docks out, so I'd love any tips or advice. Thanks a bunch!

A lot of weed killers don’t do the job properly. What often happens is that your grass dies, leaving bare soil, and that’s when the weeds come back. When you tried ripping them out, did you make sure to get the roots too? If not, they’ll just keep returning!
Honestly, if you're looking for grass, the weed killer route doesn't seem like the best option for you. You're right to look for alternatives. But, it might be worth trying to revive the soil a bit before you go artificial. Just keep in mind that any gardening advice is still relevant when dealing with plants!
I get that! We just don't have a viable option for real grass anymore. The soil isn't healthy enough to support it, unfortunately. We thought about paving it completely, but artificial grass seemed like a good midway option since we have dogs.
Could you share a picture of the plants? There are a few that look similar to dock leaves, and it could help with identification!
I can get a better pic in a day or so, but here's what I have for now! https://preview.redd.it/oh6ugtw0zz1f1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b0848a78c938e26d37400cdb4451e436747ec7cb

I think they got some roots out, but maybe not enough. Looks like I’ll need to get my shovel out and deal with this properly!
