How to Deal with Loud External Noise from a Possible Generator?

Hey everyone, I recently moved into an apartment right next to a machine that seems to be a generator (or maybe a transformer?) and it creates this constant, loud buzzing noise. During the day, it's bearable, but at night, it turns into this deep hum that makes it really hard to sleep. I've tried using white noise, but I'm looking for ways to completely eliminate this sound since it's pretty much 24/7. My apartment office hasn't really helped yet, so I'm hoping to find DIY solutions. My big concern is that it might be difficult to insulate my patio door. Any ideas or suggestions on how to tackle this?

It sounds like you might be dealing with a transformer rather than a generator if it emits a steady hum. Those lower-frequency noises can really vibrate through the building structure, making them tough to block out. Have you tried listening closely to your walls or floors? If you can hear it clearly through them, that’ll definitely complicate things. As a quick fix, you could hang heavy blankets on the walls to absorb some sound. Also, consider acoustic mass damping panels; they’re usually used to manage sound indoors, but they might help lower the noise coming from outside too. Just keep in mind they can be tricky to install without damaging walls if you plan to take them down later!
