How to Deal with Mold on Window Rails in a Damp Area?

I live in the Pacific Northwest, where it can get pretty cool and damp, and I've noticed some mold growing on the interior bottom rails of several of my windows. These windows are likely the originals from 1997, and I'm not able to replace them right now. I'm planning to clean the mold using bleach while wearing a mask, but I'm also looking for cost-effective ways to prevent it from coming back. Any suggestions? Cheers!

The best approach is to clean it thoroughly, but keep in mind that moisture will always be an issue, especially in homes around Oregon and Washington. It might not be practical to keep all the moisture out, especially if rain is splashing against the windows. Just keep cleaning it when it appears.

Bleach will definitely kill the mold, but it won’t stop it from coming back since moisture is the main culprit. To help reduce humidity, try cracking the windows open a bit for ventilation, running a dehumidifier, or even placing some rock salt nearby to absorb moisture. Just remember, if it's damp, mold is likely to come back regardless!
