How to Deal with Spiders on My Stacked Wood Slabs?

Asked By CraftyOtter92 On

I've got some 10-foot slabs of wood stacked outside, and I'm ready to start using a couple in the next week or two. While pulling some down, I noticed a black widow and several other spiders hanging around. Should I just sweep them off or use a leaf blower? If pest control is necessary, what should I use? I haven't seen any signs of beetle holes or other infestations, so I'm looking for the best way to handle these spiders without damaging the wood.

You can just sweep the black widows away too. I really wouldn’t worry about applying any treatment or spray; they usually won’t hang around if you disturb them enough. It sounds like you're in good shape!

Ok awesome. I was hoping this was the answer.

Honestly, spiders are pretty beneficial! They keep other pesky bugs in check, especially ones that might harm your wood. If you just sweep them away, they'll likely move on without any fuss. Black widows can be alarming, but if you're careful, there shouldn't be any need to spray or treat your slabs.

So just sweep them away and carry on? I’m all for spiders, just letting them go when we cross paths, but that black widow had me a bit worried.

Just a heads-up, black widows aren't fans of noise! You could try putting a portable speaker on the wood and blasting some tunes for a while. They'll likely relocate on their own!

Great idea, thank you!
