How to Downsize My Plant Collection Without Regret?

Asked By PlantLover27 On

I'm feeling really overwhelmed with my plant collection, and it's been tough to care for them properly because I'm dealing with some health issues and upcoming surgeries. I absolutely love my plants—I have over 100, many of which I've grown from cuttings—but lately, I've realized I'm struggling to maintain them all with my job and other responsibilities. My space is bursting at the seams with plants everywhere; it's starting to feel like a jungle! I want to downsize a bit, but I'm super attached to each one and it's hard to let them go. Any tips on how to approach this without feeling guilty?

Have you thought about selling some of your plants? I mean, plant lovers often buy from each other on platforms like Facebook Marketplace, so you could make a little cash while passing them on to someone who will appreciate them. Plus, sharing with friends or family can be a nice way to let go—think of it like spreading your joy of gardening! It's definitely hard to part with them, but viewing it as sharing your hard work might help.

I love that idea of sharing them! I have some friends who love plants too, so I might just offer them a few. And hey, selling on Facebook could work out well—it’s tough to let go, but that perspective helps!

If you can, definitely consider selling! I made $150 selling off extra plants that I took care of for years!

If you're in a pinch, remember to focus on how many plants you can really care for. Don’t buy more than you can handle! You might find it’s best not to replace dead plants either. Also, do you have any plants that can thrive in water? I've kept spider plants alive in water for years with minimal upkeep—it’s a game changer! Pothos are another great option if you need a low-maintenance plant.

You could always just go big and buy a bigger house! Haha, just kidding, but seriously if you find yourself with more plants than space, it might be worth considering. Sounds like you might need an expansion, especially if you've filled your new place quickly!
