How to Drill 10 Aligned Holes in a Long Dowel?

I'm working on a project that requires me to drill ten holes in a long dowel (7'5" or 230 cm long, 2" 1/8th or 28mm in diameter) all oriented the same way. I have a drill press with a V groove in the base to hold the dowel steady and centered under the drill bit. I'm trying to figure out the best method to ensure that all the holes are drilled consistently in the same direction. What techniques or tips do you suggest?

Make sure your drill bit is perfectly vertical using a level before you start. Drill your first hole, then slide the dowel down the V block. Insert a long pin or dowel in that hole and use the level again to ensure the new hole stays aligned. Just keep repeating this process for each hole!

Ohh that could work! Thanks!

You might want to scribe a line down the length of your dowel for alignment. It can help you keep track of the orientation as you drill. Just make sure whatever method you use, the line stays central along the entire length!

How would I reliably scribe a line in the middle over such a long dowel?
