Hey everyone! I'm in the process of soundproofing a wall that I share with a neighbor, and I'm adding resilient channels with rubber clips, plus two layers of 5/8 inch drywall. My question is: how can I extend the outlets to reach the new layer of drywall? I'm dealing with about a 3-inch gap now, and I can't seem to find any extenders that are deep enough. Any advice would be super helpful!

You’re right; the thing you need is called a box extender. They usually get the job done, but if they're not deep enough for your setup, you could stack a couple of them—but check if that’s safe according to your local codes. It might also be worth asking at your hardware store for any alternatives they may have.

If you still can't find the right depth, another option is to replace the entire outlet box with an old work box that can be installed in the new drywall layer. Just make sure you have enough wire slack to do that!
