Hey folks, I've got this pretty big gap in my concrete foundation that was left over from when they poured it—there's a 2x4 stuck in it that needs to be removed. The gap dimensions are about 3.5 inches deep, 1.5 inches tall, and 5 inches long. I'm wondering what would be the best way to fill it—should I use parge or something else? Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks!

You definitely want to fill that gap to avoid any moisture issues! Parging can work, but it's crucial to make sure the area is clean and dry first. If you're worried about freezing and thawing like what happened before, you might consider a foam filler or an epoxy-based product. They usually handle temperature changes better. Just make sure to follow the instructions for whatever product you choose, it helps a lot!
Thanks for the suggestions! I'm leaning towards the foam now because of that.

Good point about the temperature changes! I used a similar foam filler once, and it worked like a charm.
