Hey everyone! I'm new to DIY projects and I'm currently trying to build a bookshelf using plans from Woodshop Diaries. I'm using red oak for the frame along with red oak hardwood plywood, but I'm a bit lost when it comes to finishing it. I'd like to achieve a nice, natural finish that complements the wood. Any tips or recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance for your help!

Welcome to the DIY world! I assume you've checked out the Woodshop Diaries video—it's a great resource! For finishing your bookshelf, I'd recommend a wood wax finish. It's straightforward: just wipe it on, let it sit for a few minutes, and then wipe off the excess. Since red oak is really beautiful, you could also tint it if you want (make sure to test on a scrap piece first). Products like Osmo or Rubio Monocoat work well: check them out! I’ve also had success with Danish Oil—it gives a nice finish too and you can find it at Home Depot.

Thanks for the tips, WoodWhisperer! I want to keep the red oak's natural color as much as possible without staining. Can I use Danish Oil on the red oak plywood as well? I've heard it absorbs differently than hardwoods, which makes me a little worried about the finish.
