How to Fix a Detached Garage Door Opener?

My garage door opener has completely come off the door. I've attached some images for reference. It seems like the bolts just tore out from where the arm of the opener connects (I've circled it in red). I'm wondering if I can simply reattach the plate (shown in blue) using the original bolts, which seem okay, but in a new spot (marked in green). I also think I might need to adjust the arm (in green) to reach this new position. Is this a safe and smart fix?

Those screws seem a bit small for holding up the door's weight. It's no surprise they failed. Check the bracket to see if it can fit a larger diameter screw, or look in the manual for the recommended sizes. It might need something beefier than what you have.

Yes, you can definitely reattach it! But why are you relocating the plate? If the original holes are damaged, that makes sense. It's pretty common to find those attachment bolts a bit loose over time.
