Hey everyone! I've got a bit of a problem with my guitar—the strap peg has come out, and it's fastened with a wood screw into the body of the guitar. It seems like it just got loose over time. I'm thinking about filling the hole with wood putty and then re-drilling the screw in. Is that the right approach? Any tips would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Filling the hole with toothpicks and wood glue is a simple and effective fix! Just stuff the hole with the glue-coated toothpicks, cut them flush, and then screw it back in. If the hole isn't too big, sometimes just the friction from the toothpicks is enough without glue! For a more permanent solution, drilling out the hole and using a dowel is definitely the way to go.
I recommend drilling out the old hole with a dowel-sized bit and using wood glue to insert a dowel. This method gives a much stronger repair than just using wood putty, especially since putty alone won’t hold well in softer wood.
Using a screw that's one size bigger could work, but in your case, it's important that the screw fits through the specific hardware piece. So, I'd suggest other methods that provide a stronger hold.

Thanks for the help! I think I'll try the toothpick method first and see how it holds up!
