How to Fix a Stuck Chuck on My 18V XR Drill?

I'm dealing with a stubborn chuck on my 18V XR drill, and it's really stuck with a bit inside. I didn't want to bother trying to fix it initially and ended up buying a new drill. But now, I'd like to retrieve that stuck bit. When I hold the chuck still, the motor just clicks and doesn't turn, even when set to max speed or hammer mode. The drill generally works well, but this issue has been getting worse over time. Occasionally, the bits would loosen a bit while drilling through metal. It's about 5 years old, in great condition overall, but I'd love to get it working again, especially since I want to pass it on to a friend without giving them a broken tool.

Another option is to just try to manually undo the chuck. Sometimes you can just twist it by hand without any power. But I’ve heard that sometimes the chuck can slip during this process, so that might be tricky. Definitely worth a shot though!

Yeah, I noticed the chuck can slip a bit. That's why I haven't just tried to undo it.

First off, have you tried using some WD-40 on the chuck? Just spray a bit into it and let it sit for a day. Reapply if needed, and then give it another shot. If that doesn’t work, you might have to consider replacing the chuck. There's a good video by Dean Docherty on YouTube that shows you exactly how to change it out if the bit is stuck. You could check that out for some guidance!
