How to Fix an Electrical Outlet That’s Sticking Out?

I recently noticed that some electrical outlets in my house are sticking out about 1/4 inch from the wall. It's not drywall, but rather some thin wood panels. Is there an easy way to push the outlet further into the wall, or can I use a thicker outlet cover to make it appear flush? The current cover is wobbling and leaves a noticeable gap.

You can definitely use a multitool to cut the box back so it's flush with the wall. Just be aware that if the box isn’t an adjustable type, you might end up having a pretty tricky time getting it to sit properly again. One would think they would have already adjusted it if it were possible!

Just be careful when you're doing it! If you're not experienced with electrical work, it might be a good idea to consult someone who is.

So, can I just pull out the box and resize the hole? From what I can see, something on the side is preventing the box from going in all the way.
