How to Fix Failing Grout in My Bathroom?

Asked By CraftyNinja32 On

I recently bought a renovated home, and I've noticed that the grout in my master bathroom is deteriorating. Over time, I've seen mold develop, and when I scrubbed a bit, some of the grout came off, leaving holes. I've let it dry completely and will avoid using the shower for now. Should I completely re-grout it and seal it afterward? I think if it had been sealed properly, the grout wouldn't have crumbled so easily with light scrubbing.

It sounds like the grout might have been poorly installed. Just sealing it wouldn't prevent it from loosening up over time. Sealing helps keep dirt out and limits water absorption, but it's not permanent. You should definitely consider re-grouting it, especially if it's crumbling.

Does sealant need to be applied again after a certain time?
