Hey DIY community! My wife and I tried to give our old hardwood floors a modern twist with a whitewash, but it turned out to be a disaster. We mixed the whitewash, diluted it, worked on small sections, and then applied polyurethane, but now they just look hazy and puddled. I'm really frustrated and need advice on whether I should sand everything down to the bare wood, wax, and accept the original look. Any guidance from the woodworking pros out there would be greatly appreciated! Also, I tried sharing this in another space and got hit with negativity, so I'm hoping for a more constructive conversation here. Thanks a lot!

Yeah, you're on the right track. It sounds like sanding it down would be your best bet since it looks like the whitewash didn't adhere properly. A lot of people think these projects are straightforward, but they can really be tricky! If you have the time to sand it all off and start fresh, that should fix the haziness. Just be patient with the process. And don’t let those negative comments get you down; it's all part of learning! Good luck!
If you didn't sand your floors down before applying the whitewash, that might be the root of the issue. It’s crucial to get to bare wood for any finish to look good. If you want to share some pictures, feel free to upload them to Imgur. That way we can better see what went wrong and help out!
Thanks for the tip on Imgur, that’ll help! I guess I was hoping for an easier fix, but it sounds like I’ll have to sand it down for sure.
Thanks for the encouragement! I'm definitely in the mindset of learning from this experience. I'll keep you updated on how the sanding goes!
