I tried changing the color of my metal patio chairs and ran into a problem. After sanding off the rusty spots, I used Rustoleum clean metal primer and then applied Rustoleum 2x satin spray paint in a color I thought I'd love, but now I really dislike it. I have a new satin color I'd like to use instead, but I want to confirm if I need to remove the satin sheen from the first coat before applying the new color. It's been about 2.5 days since I painted. What's the best approach for this? Is there an easier or faster method than sanding, and what exactly should I use?

After a couple of days, you might want to do a light sand between coats. A little scuffing should be enough, especially since you’re working with satin. If you’d prefer not to sand, a quick wipe with acetone might help—just remember to do it in one smooth motion without going back and forth.
You likely don’t need to strip the previous paint unless it’s contaminated, just give it a good cleaning. As long as the first coat is intact, the new paint should stick just fine without major prep work.
Great to know! My surface is clean, so I’ll just go ahead and apply the new paint.
Will the new paint really adhere well to the satin finish?
If you do need to sand, just use regular sandpaper, either by hand or with a power tool. But what grit should I use for this?
Yeah, I was wondering the same thing—what grit is best?
I’d suggest using a matte gray primer spray before your new color. I did something similar on my chairs a couple of years ago, and they still look awesome!
Awesome tip, thanks!

Thanks for that! It sounds manageable.
