I have an issue with the grading of my yard: three sides are graded correctly, but one area dips towards the house. The ground is higher beyond the fireplace and slopes downward, which leads water away to a retention pond. I'm looking for advice on whether a contractor would typically remove the existing hump to make the yard more flat or if they would build up the area around the house and lower the yard further, which seems like a tougher task.

I was worried that leveling down the entire yard would be too drastic, but it's great to know about the French drain option. I think once I get that walkway out, I might just give this a shot. I love that it doesn’t rely on a pump either!
