I spilled some boiled linseed oil on my bib overalls while refinishing wooden oars. After the accident, I soaked the overalls in cold water overnight and treated the stain with baking soda and dish soap. I washed them today and even added an extra rinse, but the scent is still really strong. I'm wondering how long the fumes will stick around and what else I can do to get rid of the smell!

Honestly, I’m not sure what the baking soda will do here, but it sounds like you might need to go for more soap. The key is to get the oil out before it sets in, especially if the overalls are cotton. Even if they’re not stained, the smell might linger for a while if any oil has already bonded with the fabric. Washing with hot, soapy water could definitely help. If all else fails, some acetone can dissolve the oil, but be careful as it might damage the color of the overalls!
