How to Get Rid of a Fishy Smell in My Front-Loading Washing Machine?

I've been dealing with an awful smell, kind of like something rotten or fishy, coming from my front-loading LG washing machine. I've already checked and cleaned the filter and gaskets, and I'm currently running a self-cleaning cycle with bleach. With two little kids around, I wouldn't be surprised if there's a sock stuck somewhere. What are some good troubleshooting steps I could take next to fix this issue?

You might want to try running a self-clean cycle with Oxiclean first, then follow that up with a cycle using vinegar. Adding about a quarter cup of white vinegar to each load can help keep the smell at bay. That's what worked for me!

This is a pretty common problem with front-load machines. To help reduce the odor, I just leave the door open after using it. It really helps with ventilation and keeps any unwanted smells away!

Have you considered your detergent? I know it can get pretty stinky if you’re using regular Tide or a similar brand. Just a thought!

Yeah, I hadn't thought it might be the soap! I'll look into that.
