How to Get Rid of Scale Insects on My Plants?

I'm struggling to eliminate scale insects on my ferns and other plants. I've been using Neem oil, but it doesn't seem to be effective. What other methods should I try to get rid of these pests?

I've found that using a Q-tip dipped in rubbing alcohol can be effective for getting rid of scale. Just gently scrub the bugs off, and it should take care of them pretty well! If you can, check to see if they’re alive—if they squish and are juicy, they’re still causing trouble!

Great advice! I do a similar thing and it works wonders.

If you're dealing with scale and Neem oil isn't working, you might want to try using isopropyl alcohol at a concentration of around 70%. Applying it directly can help eliminate those pesky insects. Some people also have luck with insecticidal soap, so that could be worth a shot too!

Yeah, I've seen good results with insecticidal soap! Plus, it’s pretty easy to use.

Thanks for the tip! I'll definitely give that a try.

I've struggled with scale too. Sometimes a more drastic approach might be needed, like using Bonide granules for a systemic treatment. Wrapping your plant in a plastic bag with dry ice can also smother them with CO2, though it might take some time. Just make sure they're truly gone before you reintroduce the plant to others to avoid spreading them!
