I'm working on expanding my driveway, but there's an AT&T line that runs along the side of my house, and it's causing some major issues. I've already contacted 811 and got all the utilities marked. I'm a Spectrum customer, and they moved their line for free. However, since I'm not an AT&T customer, they quoted me $500 just for an engineer to come out to assess moving the line, with the total cost possibly running into the thousands. My driveway costs $5000, and I don't want to spend that much to move a line I don't plan on using. I'm considering just cutting the line myself at the network interface, feeling confident that I won't need a phone line again. Has anyone dealt with a similar situation? What would you do?

I’d just dig it out yourself if it’s not that deep! If it’s just a drop to your house, you can handle it! Engineers are usually called for more complicated moves, but don’t waste your time on that unless it’s necessary.
Just so you know, if they’re charging more because you’re not a paying customer, one option might be to sign up for service, move the line, and then cancel after! That could save you some serious cash.
If that line is only going to your house, I'd say just cut it and be done with it. Just make sure it’s not serving anyone else—if it is, you could be looking at some fines. Better to make sure before snipping away!
