How to Handle Neighbors’ Tree Blocking Sunlight in My Garden?

I just moved into a new place with a nice garden where I started growing vegetables after removing about 30m2 of lawn. However, I've realized that my neighbor's tree is blocking sunlight for most of the day, especially in summer. Since I'm not really familiar with this neighbor and haven't talked to them much, I'm uncertain about asking them to cut the branches or whether I should do it myself. What should I do?

Have you considered relocating your garden? I know it can be a hassle, but if there's no sun getting through, it might be your best option. Plus, you won't have to deal with tree issues if you move things around a bit. Just a thought!

I definitely get that. It’s frustrating when you pour your effort into a garden and the light just isn’t there. Sometimes trees just get too big for their surroundings!

I feel you! But honestly, most of my yard is in shade because of those branches, so moving isn't really an option for me either.

If those branches are indeed crossing over your property line, why not start by chatting with your neighbors? Maybe they wouldn't mind you trimming them back, especially if it helps your garden thrive. A little friendly conversation can go a long way!
