How to Install a Temporary Load-Bearing Post in My Garage?

I've got this old garage with a flat roof that's starting to bow a bit, mainly from some water damage. It's not too serious yet, but I think putting in a temporary support right in the center of the ceiling could help out. What are some ways to add a load-bearing pillar? Are there alternatives to using a single post that might help spread the weight better?

You might want to consider using adjustable jack posts. They're pretty straightforward to install and should do the job well.

Acrow props could be your best bet here. One might do the trick, but if you're looking to distribute the weight more evenly, consider using a wider wooden plank or scaffold board underneath. This helps spread the weight safely. Also, if you plan to keep this structure, you'll want to ensure the roof is watertight to prevent further damage.

Why not just drill some holes in the roof? No water means no sagging! 😂
