How to Install Laminate Over Bituminous Underlay?

Hey everyone, I'm a first-time homeowner and I need some advice! I previously had hardwood floors which have seen better days, so I'm switching to laminate. Here's the catch: beneath the hardwood, I found a bituminous layer. In one room, it's sticky, while in others, it looks like it's in sheet form. I'm considering using a self-leveling screed, but I've heard that it won't stick well to the existing underlayer, which seems to be a textured slab or concrete. Is that true? What alternatives do I have? Would putting down a layer of OSB help? I'm concerned about the cost of plywood though. Thanks in advance for any tips! Instead of self-leveling screed, you might consider a foam underlay, especially if your floors aren't too uneven. Products like Platon or Comfort floor systems could work for you. They provide some cushioning, which can help with minor imperfections without needing to level the entire floor. Just make sure to check the specifications for weight load if you have heavier furniture!

Wouldn't XPS be a better choice for sturdiness under heavier items?
