I recently moved into a new home and have a room with a west-facing window. I've installed solar shades and blackout curtains, but the room still gets quite warm. Interestingly, my master bedroom, which also has a west-facing window but only has blackout curtains, doesn't feel as hot. What else can I do to keep the temperature down? Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Have you thought about installing window awnings or maybe planting some trees outside? These methods can really help block the direct sunlight from hitting your windows in the first place. A little preventative action goes a long way when it comes to keeping your space cooler.
If you're looking for a more permanent solution, investing in a high-quality window tint can make a big difference. Ceramic window tint is great if your budget allows for it; it can prevent a lot of thermal gain. The sun's heat can enter your room long before hitting your curtains, so this could be a good way to tackle that issue.
It sounds like your window treatments are doing some work, but the sun's still sneaking in and heating things up. You might want to consider stopping sunlight from hitting the glass from outside. One option is to hang a roller shade outside your window. It can be a bit of a hassle since it's manual, but I found that it significantly dropped the temperature in my room and still lets me leave the windows open at night.
