I'm a big fan of moss, especially since I live in a damp, wooded area where it thrives. I'd love to see my entire yard covered in it like a cozy green carpet! However, I'm struggling a bit with maintenance in the spring. When I try to rake it, the moss often gets dislodged and leaves holes behind. I heard that using a broom, like they do in Japan, might be a better option. What tips do you have for creating the perfect moss floor?

You might want to try using a leaf blower instead of a rake! It’s usually gentler and can clear debris without ripping up the moss, just make sure it’s not too powerful.
I love moss, too! In fact, I just mow over my leaves since the blades are usually too high to damage the moss. Plus, any bits that get chopped up can help enrich the soil. I also have a little garden where I move interesting moss patches I find. Letting them take root in a moist pot has been quite rewarding for me!
I pick up leaves by hand, which can take a while, but my garden is really tiny. It helps keep the moss looking pristine!
