How to Maintain the Initial Look of Odie’s Oil?

I'm a big fan of the look Odie's Oil gives right after application. It's not exactly glossy but has a nice 'wetter' appearance before it gets buffed off an hour later. I'm wondering if there are any techniques or products out there that can help me preserve that fresh look in the final finish?

One way to maintain that sheen is to try applying a little more oil than usual, then buff it lightly instead of fully removing it. This might help keep some of that wet look you're after! Just be careful not to overdo it, or it might get too sticky.

If you're looking for that shiny finish, you might want to experiment with products other than Odie's Oil. There are some finishes out there that contain resins and can give you that varnish-like sheen you're after. Just be sure to check their application methods!

You seem to be aiming for a look more akin to a long oil varnish rather than just oil and wax. There are recipes online for making your own long oil varnish, but it involves some trial and error. Alternatively, if you're interested in easier solutions, ask the community for recommendations on commercial options that fit your needs.

And regarding your questions, using Wood Butter might help increase the sheen a bit. As for burnishing with 0000 steel wool, I'd say give it a shot before applying the second coat; it could improve the final finish.
