I'm really concerned about the safety of our railings, especially with younger kids hanging over them like a gym. I'm looking for effective ways to prevent any falls. One idea I had was to build something temporary all the way up to the ceiling. What do you think?

Consider installing vertical steel cables from the floor to the ceiling. It can modernize the look while keeping things safe—plus, they won't block much light or the view!
You might want to try zip tying some clear plexiglass panels to the upper railings. It'll keep light coming in without blocking visibility much!
Are you looking to discourage climbing completely, or just make it safer? If you're okay with some climbing, installing a cargo net that kids can climb on might be a fun idea! Just mount it from the ridge beam down. Later on, you could even add a bouldering section nearby.
