Hey everyone! I've got a raised bed that I built a couple of years ago using the hugelkultur method. It's about hip high and I've been growing annuals in it like basils, flowers, micro dwarf tomatoes, and some small pepper plants this year. I've noticed that every winter, the bed sinks by about 3 to 4 inches, so I fill it up again for the next crop season without much hassle. Now, I have some strawberry plants in a Greenstalk that don't seem to be thriving, and I'd really like to transfer them into the raised bed since it's the perfect height for harvesting and they have space to spread out. My concern is how to handle the annual settling because strawberries are quite sensitive about having their crowns buried. Any advice would be appreciated!

I've dealt with something similar before! The good news is that strawberries tend to do pretty well despite some settling. If they don't like the conditions later on, you can always dig them up and try another spot. They’re quite forgiving, so it’s worth giving it a shot!

I had my strawberries in a small bed once with poor drainage and shade. Neglected them for a bit and they practically drowned during heavy rains. But after I moved them to a better spot, they thrived! So don’t stress too much if they settle; they might surprise you!
