How to Manage Water Drainage for a Dehumidifier in My Basement?

I'm looking for advice on setting up a dehumidifier in my unfinished basement, but here's the catch: I don't have a convenient drain for the water. Since this is an investment property that's a 40-minute drive away, I want to avoid having to go back and forth to empty it. What solutions are out there for automatic drainage?

Getting a condensate pump is a solid option. You can easily run a pipe from your dehumidifier to the pump, and then have the pump direct the water to a drain, whether that's upstairs or outside. This could save you a lot of hassle!

Consider investing in a dehumidifier with a built-in pump. These can automatically funnel the water outside or elsewhere in your house. If you prefer a different approach, you could also install a condensate pump. This accessory will help manage the water by pumping it out when the dehumidifier collects it. Just check this link for a model that many recommend: [Little Giant Condensate Pump](https://www.homedepot.com/p/Little-Giant-115-Volt-Automatic-Condensate-Removal-Pump-554401/300666234). Alternatively, if it's feasible, having a plumber connect the dehumidifier to your home's plumbing system could be a more permanent solution, as long as it meets local code requirements.

Check if your property has a furnace or an instant hot water heater; they often come with a condensate pump that could work for your dehumidifier too. Just see if you can drain into that system to simplify things.

That's a great idea! I'll check to see if there’s one already installed.
