I'm working on some floor molding and I don't have a miter saw at the moment. I was thinking of using a circular saw, but I'm a bit confused about how to make accurate and safe cuts. I'd like to know the best methods for doing a 45-degree miter cut without a miter saw. I could possibly clamp the molding upright and make a 90-degree cut, but I'm not sure if that's practical. Any suggestions for doing this effectively? I have experience with a miter saw, but I'm still learning the ropes with a circular saw.

You could also consider just tilting the circular saw blade to 45 degrees and using a speed square to guide your cuts. It can work, but if you're not experienced with the circular saw, it might take some practice to get it right!
If you're only cutting a few pieces, a miter box and hand saw would be the quickest and easiest way to go. You can get it done in no time! It's just a lot more straightforward and accurate for miter cuts than trying to use a circular saw.
Honestly, if you can swing it, you might want to invest in a cheap miter box and saw—they're great for projects like this. Trying to do miter cuts with a circular saw sounds risky and could lead to some messy cuts. Just my two cents!

Thanks for the tip! I thought about using a speed square, but I'm worried about holding everything steady. I guess I just need to practice a little before jumping in.
