Hey folks! I just moved into a new place and I'm trying to figure out a solution for mounting my computer monitors to the wall. Clamping them to the desk makes them wobble every time I type, and I'm considering using a 2x4. My plan is to drill into the wall studs, use some 4-inch screws, and secure the 2x4 flat against the wall so it extends about 4 inches out. Does anyone have experience with this or any advice?

You're definitely on the right track with hitting the studs for a solid mount. Just a thought: consider getting a VESA mount instead. They're quite affordable (found one for $4.09) and will give you a cleaner look without the bulk of a 2x4. Just make sure to use shorter screws—2 inches should be plenty if you're going through half an inch of drywall and into the stud.
I’ve done something similar and it worked great! I used a 2x4 ripped to 3" deep and secured it to two adjacent studs with 4 ½" HeadLOK screws. It was incredibly sturdy—I could stand on it without any issues. Just keep in mind the drywall isn’t as strong, so make sure your screws are appropriately sized; you might want to go with 5 ½" screws to ensure you’re sinking deep enough into the studs. Aim for a large-headed structural screw for the best support!
Using a piece of ¾" plywood is a smart alternative! It can connect to two studs and provide plenty of support while only being 17 inches long and 4 inches wide. Definitely easier to manage than a full 2x4 while still being effective for monitor mounting.
