I'm transforming a gutted walk-in closet into a small office nook, but I'm facing a few challenges. The condo has flimsy metal studs, which makes me uneasy about the stability of hanging cabinets. Plus, two walls back up to showers, so I want to be careful. The ceiling is made up of a concrete slab without any drywall. I'm wondering if it's possible to use anchors in the ceiling while also securing the cabinets to the wall. The concrete looks like it was cast in place and not treated, and I've noticed electrical conduits embedded in other areas. The ceilings in other parts seem to be secured to the concrete as well. Can I safely attach the cabinets directly to the ceiling, or should I consider using a cleat for added support?

Even though steel studs seem flimsy, they can be quite strong if you use the right metal screws. Attaching plywood strips can make it easier to find solid points for wall mounting the cabinets. This is pretty standard practice in commercial settings where opening the wall isn’t an option.
You might want to use a steel track or channel as your primary anchor and then mount a layer of 3/8" plywood to that. It makes things easier and helps avoid drilling into the concrete, which can be tricky. Plus, it gives you a secure base to mount your cabinets.
I get your concern. I checked one of my walls and could actually feel the studs moving. A contractor I spoke with warned against hanging heavy items like vanities due to the studs' instability.
